Welcome to Dandelions Pre-School
Dandelions is a purpose built community pre-school, in the heart of Hatch Warren, Basingstoke. Since opening in January 2005 we have cared for hundreds of children aged 2 to 5 years. We have provided them with a happy, safe and stimulating environment to help prepare them for a great start in school and in life.
Dandelions is a non-profit organisation and we welcome all children in the St Marks and Hatch Warren Schools catchment area, regardless of race, culture, religion, ability and means. Dandelions is led by a Pre-School Manager and a qualified leadership team and play assistants, 9 staff in total. Our devoted pre-school team are also supported by a committee of volunteers. By working closely with parents, we aim to provide outstanding pre-school education.
Dandelions runs during term time only with a number of sessions. We are registered for extended day care which means we are able to offer care from 08:30am until 4pm. Our start times range from 08:30, 09:00 and 11:30 and a lunch at 12:30. Within this we offer 9am – 11:30am and 12:30 – 3pm, and 3 - 4pm.
Thursday is the ‘Lions Group’ a group for the older children in which we focus on preparing them for school. We encourage all children to attend these sessions. The session has its own set of planning and the topics mainly are supported by popular stories such as Goldilocks, Jack and the Bean Stalk and so on.
Funding is our main source of income. It is very important that your funding forms are completed correctly and handed back to us on time. Your child will be entitled to receive funding the term following their third birthday. You will need to complete a form at the beginning of each term. The form will be sent home with your child on the first day they attend at the beginning of term. If you are not entitled to funding or they are under three the hourly rate is £4.95.
Two Year Old Offer
Dandelions and Snapddragons are both accredited to take two year olds under the government two year old funding scheme. Click on the link to see the criteria and how this scheme works. http://www3.hants.gov.uk/childrens-services/childcare/parents/cis/eye/2-year-old-offer-2.htm
Claiming from two providers – You are able to divide your funding between two settings, ensuring that the total does not exceed 15 hours. Any additional hours up 15 will be charged in line with the funding rate currently £4.95
Attending over 15 hours – If your child attends Dandelions / Snapdragons for more than 15 hours then you claim 15 hours on your form and you will be billed for the additional hours at £4.95 per hour. (This decision was taken because we are a community pre-school and aim to provide care for as many children from our waiting list as possible and the more additional hours children take the fewer children we can cater for).
Any problems pop in and see us.
Our journey started a few years ago at Little Paws where Jane spent time getting to know Freya and myself. We still remember these sessions fondly - thank you!
Freya has now had a wonderful two years at Dandelions where she has matured into a little girl ready for the challenges of school. She has loved every minute of her time with you all and has grown in confidence during her Lions year. Particular fond memories will be when Zoolab visited, Miller Ark, the Christmas show, sports day and most recently the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.
Thank you for taking the time to help Freya develop her speech and sound work in your language group. She has enjoyed the challenges Maria has set her with her reading and maths this year!
You all do a brilliant job and we are sad this journey is coming to an end, but I am sure Freya will wave over the fence next year!
Enjoy your summer and thank you once again.
Fiona, Phil and Freya
Thank you for everything you have done for us as our family have gone through Snapdragons and Dandelions. You run a wonderful pre-school and I have seen it get better as time has gone by. It is great how you are always looking for ways to improve and adapt. I have really appreciated your support for working parents and all advice you have given.
Best wishes for the future

Dear Jackie & Team
Thank you so much for looking after Dylan for the past two years. It has been so lovely seeing our shy little boy grow in confidence and make a great group of friends. Dylan has really enjoyed his time with you and learnt so much and we'll miss seeing you all every week.
Best wishes for the new year and we look forward to seeing you all again when it's Jack's turn!
